Sioux Falls is my hometown. I was born, educated and raised here. I'm thankful for the opportunity Sioux Falls has given my wife, Beth, and I to raise our family here and to be a small business owners here for the past 23 years.
My leadership experience started by growing up in a house where my Dad was the Sioux Falls Public Utilities Commissioner. Diner conversations revolved around what was better, concreate or asphalt for streets; not the Vikings or the Packers.
Dad and I talked about budget and policy issues regarding snow removal, the value of future water supplies and how government should work.
I was elected in 2008 and again in 2012 to the Sioux Falls City Council. I was then elected to the South Dakota Legislature in 2016 where I currently serve in the House of Representatives for District 12. There I work with taxpayers all over the city and state on issues that directly impact their lives. I’ve worked with the past 3 mayors who have lead our city as well as with many city councilmembers.
I have learned so much from working with County Commissioners from both Minnehaha and Lincoln counties. Bringing together all these leaders, I learned what works and what doesn’t, how to approach challenging issues and how to find compromises and solutions to moving our city, county and state forward.
All that experience creates hindsight but provides me with 20/20 vision for the future. It’s that experience and the long range thinking that’s required for our great growing city!
